RainbowNet Cultural Technologies

History

We originally started as a group of early cyber activists who were working in the areas of social justice, global human rights and peace

After several years of assisting campaigns by providing computer services we choose to develop a training and skills transfer policy and teach others rather than simply do the computer work for them.

The Cyber Pod

After some experience obtaining equipment and the difficulties of transporting and setting up computers, installing and commissioning software and communications hardware we developed the concept of the Cyber Pod. An integral and secure energy and computer communication unit that can be deployed anywhere in the world.

The Cyber Pod has it's own power supplies from renewable energy sources. Wind and solar charged batteries as well as low power consumption computers and communications equipment appropriate to it's location. The Cyber Pod was demonstrated for the first time at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival.

How we work - an overall picture

We employ the latest Information Technology for inexpensive and immediate access to global communications.

We use telephones, modems, radios, satellites, fax machines, computers, electronic mail, the latest software and world-wide databases, to supply IT services and training, to people and organisations who need them for co-operative endeavours and creative social change.

Who are we and how do we do it?

We are a team of people with a wide range of complimentary skills and background experience who work together as follows:
